Hot tips and simple advice for prepping your hair and makeup for your wedding day.
HAIR PREP
1-2 months before the wedding:
Consider adding a few highlights to your hair.
Updos look great with a few regular highlights - not too much though!
Down hairstyles can benefit from a few sunkissed locks. Consider getting a balayage and a few pieces lightened in the front hairline.
Frizzy hair? A Keratin treatment might be right for you. Keratin-treated hair is low-maintenance and will likely last through the honeymoon!
If applicable - buy your hair extensions and have them fitted (cut and colored if necessary).
Gather hair supplies (for you and your attendants)
Hairspray
Bobby pins
Decorative hair accessories (i.e. hair combs or flowers)
The night before or the day of your wedding
Wash your hair. I will “dirty” your hair with the product.
*Please note: if you are a “curly girl”, your routine will be different. I leave it up to you to decide when it’s best to wash your hair before the wedding.
On the wedding day
Wear a button-down or zip-up shirt or kimono. Avoid flannel material (it ruins the underneath of hairstyles).
MAKEUP PREP
Starting now
Consider adding Retinol or Differin to your skincare routine.
You absolutely must use sunblock if you use these products.
You cannot wax while using these products.
Troubled skin? Consult with a medical aesthetician for advice.
Try a facial with a reputable spa! It’s relaxing and is great for your skin!
Invest in a decent cleanser and moisturizer.
5-6 months before the wedding
If applicable: stop injectable or laser treatments.
3 months before the wedding
If you have decided that you want a spray tan, make sure you do a trial run.
1-2 months before the wedding:
Stop using Retinol or Differin. Switch to AHA or BHA acids. They aren’t as strong yet and work well to encourage new cellular growth.
Purchase a touch-up lipstick. Buy the good stuff from brands such as Dior or Chanel. You’re worth it. Pick one that feels creamy and friendly to your lips.
Stop receiving facials.
2 weeks before the wedding:
Avoid excessive alcohol, sugars, and salty foods. Work on hydrating instead!
Get your waxing done. Please don’t wax right before the wedding. Makeup does not adhere to freshly waxed skin. Stop using Retinol or Differin at least 2 weeks before getting waxed. You will rip your skin off if you wax while using Retinol.
Stop exfoliating. Stop using AHA or BHA acids.
Don’t try anything new!
